Hitting the gym for the first time on a Saturday morning I was shocked by how empty it was. Normally it is busy, during the week there are a reasonable number of people to watch, however today it is deserted.

The reason I am here on the treadmill is to test out the Nike Plus sensor on the iPhone. Have just started to run again, I have assumed that tracking the progress will be useful.

Since I do not use Nike running shoes, I have attached the sensor to my Asics in a neoprene pouch on the laces. It fits snugly in the pouch and does not move, which ensures an accurate reading. The iPhone finds the sensor automatically and once the selection is made in the Nike Plus application of the training type and the start button is presses the system accurately records the distance travelled.

I intend to practice running 5K with the goal of getting back under 6 min/mile pace for the start of the next triathlon season.

I decided that it is time to punish myself for getting old and flabby. It is far to easy to get to the end of a year and kid yourself that you will make a change on Jan 1st that will last the rest of a year. So this year I have decided to set myself a task of completing 400 sit-ups per day for 400 days.

I was fishing around for a starting point and have realised that there are exactly 400 days until the end of 2009 if I start today.

This is additional exercise over and above the training that I am doing at the moment. No excuses will be accepted, even on the day that I am due to complete the 3 Peaks Challenge.

Roll on the end of 2009 and having rock solid Abs!
