How to be chilled

July 20th, 2007 · No Comments

I have realised that my methods for having a less stressful life have their basis in the Serenity Prayer by Reinhold Niebuhr.  The whole idea of not worrying about the things you have no control over and focusing on those things you can change.  While I am not sure that I have the wisdom that I need to always know the difference but I try.

The Serenity Prayer

God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.

Living one day at a time;
Enjoying one moment at a time;
Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
Taking, as He did, this sinful world
as it is, not as I would have it;
Trusting that He will make all things right
if I surrender to His Will;
That I may be reasonably happy in this life
and supremely happy with Him
Forever in the next.
Amen.

–Reinhold Niebuhr

For those living in England, the weather is a constant source of conversation, so many people I know get worked up about it, yet have no way of controlling it ever.  So why worry?

For me it is always a “blue sky day”, no matter how many clouds there or how dark the sky.  There is always a blue sky above them.
