Ten in a Row

July 27th, 2009 · No Comments

It was as long ago as 2003 when the FTSE 100 last experienced ten straight days of gains, but this is exactly the situation in which the UK market now finds itself.

To put the recent surge into context, the headline UK index has never recorded a positive run longer than 11 days. The FTSE 100 recorded a positive return of 4.3% for the week, and has gained more than 10% in two weeks, despite confirmation of Britain’s largest economic contraction in more than 60 years.

Friday’s news that the country’s gross domestic product numbers had reduced by 5.6% year on year, more than twice the expected amount, did little to dampen investors’ appetite for stocks.

Shame that the people who could really benefit from this rise in the stock market are the ones who do not have any money left…..  Most of the population….
