The Criminal Class

October 7th, 2008 · No Comments

During these ‘interesting times’ a quote from Mark Twain comes to mind;

“It could probably be shown by facts and figures that there is no distinctly native American criminal class except Congress.”

This was penned back in 1897 but could this be seen as an appropriate way of describing the current reality of what is going on today, but not just in Congress.  The mess that has been made of the economy has been in part down to the actions of this Criminal Class…

Picking up on the theme of crime  George Benard Shaw has an interesting take:

A government which robs Peter to pay Paul can always depend on the support of Paul.

- at this time I suspect Peter is the consumer and Paul is the banking executive….  An interesting play in the run up to the presidential elections…

I agree with the sentiments of Edward Langley

What this country needs are more unemployed politicians.

But am afraid that Thomas Jefferson was right when he observered:

A government big enough to give you everything you want, is strong enough to take everything you have.

let us hope that the current financial turmoil does not result in the Government taking everything we have by mortgaging the country by trying to prop up bad / failing businesses (the banks) using our money to do it.
