Last Saturday Susan Boyle took the world by storm with a fantastic rendition of “I Dreamed a Dream” from Les Miserables.
Lots has been written about her performance, which is amazing and can be seen here on YouTube.
This is a woman who has spend a number of years nursing her elderly mother and is currently unemployed.
But what I took away from it was the attitude of the audience before she
performed.
As Susan answers the question “what’s the dream?” with the answer that she wants to be a professional singer. The camera pans the audience and captures this woman rolling her eyes and commenting to her friend who laughs.
As Susan answered the question “who would you like to be as successful as?” another spectator mouthed “not a chance”.
Once again another woman who is no judge of talent, simply going on looks alone. What a shallow woman.
Just how wrong could both of these spectators be? And what about the rest of us?
How many of us simply judge based on looks?
